There’s something about pulling up to a place this big and beautiful that just relaxes your mind and spirit before you ever even step foot inside the doors.
Being this far away from all of the hustle and bustle of the world is lovely. You can take a deep breath, clear your mind and forget the worries of life. I think getting away every now and again is essential. A great start for a family is having the parents go out on dates, without the kids, and concentrating on each other. Family vacations are also wonderful as it provides opportunities to grow together as a family away from chores, work, friends, and stress. A couples getaway is also wonderful. You get to spend time one on one with each other, try new things together, concentrate on showing love for one another and growing in your relationship. Unfortunately, we are in hard economic times, and getting away to some tropical island, beautiful country, or even another state is just too difficult. Here’s where we welcome the “staycation”.
We took a little staycation in Park City, Utah at the Montage Resort. It was lovely, perfect, and far exceeded our expectations. The rest of Utah has an incredibly high bar to try to reach after this trip. For a staycation you just find somewhere with a fantastic hotel or resort that is close to where you live and go experience it like you are on vacation. Get a babysitter for the kids or bring them with, either way it’s a vacation and live it up!
The Montage is nestled high up in the mountains where you feel like you are so far away from civilization even though it’s just down the road where you can’t see. It’s quiet, and to say that they are all about the mood, well, that’s quite the understatement.
This room is even bigger than it looks and in the evenings you can listen to live music, order fresh, handmade sushi, or order from the restaurant downstairs. The smell of leather, exquisite hard wood floors and the fresh outdoors fills the resort and though you may try fighting it, you instantly relax and feel right at home. A home away from home, but 1,000 times better.
The Montage goes far and beyond the norm to make you feel cozy, and important. In the evenings we would return to a warmly lit resort, including candles lining the staircase, and our room always had truffles on the bed, slippers and bathrobes waiting, lighting turned down low and mood music playing. It felt amazing to enter that room after a long day of playing in Park City.
One of my favorite parts of our stay, other than the spa, and wellness center, which I will get to in a moment, would be the S’more bar, outside on the deck every day, come rain, snow, or shine. It was perfection. There are so many different kinds of marshmallows, regular, vanilla, caramel, peppermint, cinnamon and so on. Plus, hot cocoa, chocolates, grahams, the whole works. It was so fun to go out and enjoy a s’more over the big fire pits. Isn’t that so cute?!

We loved working out in the mornings. The Wellness Center is top of the line with equipment and classes. The equipment is in perfect shape and great quality. One of the employees made sure we had everything that we needed and even ordered the hubby a chocolate protein shake that arrived just as he was finishing his workout, right on time. The pool and SPA are amazing. 35,000 sq feet, should be enough space don’t ya think? It’s absolutely beautiful. One day we really just wanted to have a peaceful day of relaxation. No plans, no busy shopping or activities, just pure peace. We headed to the spa and went back and forth between the sauna, steam room, hot tub and relaxing in the soft loungers with ample, homemade granola, dried fruits, and books. I thought we would be in there for maybe an hour. Almost three hours later we finally emerged. It was perfection. Even something as simple as the showers are well thought out, providing you with everything you would have or need in your own bathroom.
You may be wondering what your kiddos are doing this whole time. If you do bring the kids there is plenty to do like, skiing, tubing, swimming, eating out etc, but as you know, sometimes there are activities like the spa, or a date with your significant other or whatever it is that you almost wish you had a nanny along with you to watch the kids while you go do something for adults. Montage totally has you covered with Paintbox. It’s a fantastic program for the kids that is offered every day in half day or full day schedules. They feed your kids, do tons of activities with them and keep them completely entertained and happy. I love how clean and friendly it is and the staff is amazing. They are so kind and loving and I saw a little family passing by to say goodbye to the workers. The kids loved it so much that the parents said they insisted on going to tell the staff goodbye before heading home. Love that.
I realize this ended up being a bit longer than intended, but I can’t say enough about the Montage. The staff is incredible, the resort is incredible, and your experience will be memorable and amazing. A staycation is exactly what you need to surprise the family or a loved one this year. I HIGHLY, and I mean, VERY highly recommend the Montage. You will feel like royalty and leave refreshed and renewed. I do hope you will look into surprising your loved ones with a trip there… I hear there’s even more to do in the Summer, so there’s no need to way for a winter getaway.
