I don’t normally post on the weekends, but this time I felt like I have so much to gab about that I had no choice but to pull up an extra day! We have two important topics, my sister who’s a finalist for the beach body weight loss competition and Britax car seats.
My sister, Rachelle has lost over 80 pounds and is the second round of a Beach Body contest for weight loss. I would love you forever if you would go vote for her here. You may need to sign up for a free Beach Body membership but don’t worry you don’t ever have to use it again if you don’t want to. Just click join, free membership, fill out your info and then go HERE to VOTE! You can vote once a day so keep it open and keep voting. THANK YOU! I’m seriously so proud of her and her journey. In fact, you can read her blog and see how she did it and what changed for her.
And next up is a bit of a rant/PSA and I actually got Britax to help me out. You see, I was listening to a group of new or soon to be mothers talk about car seats and one after another brought up that there aren’t very cute car seats. Everyone was asking for opinions about what brand to get and why and I finally spoke up and said, “Well, I agree there aren’t all of the patterns etc that they have for bedding, but I don’t really care as much about the pattern as I do the safety, plus it’s just a car seat, it’s not their bedroom.” I kid you not, everyone politely disagreed. Yup. I heard so many, yeah but I’m not going to spend $200 on an ugly car seat that I don’t love. Now, these women are all educated and they did all agree that they want their kids safe, and a few did mention that they just want one they can afford which is why they went with such and such brand. Which is fine, I’m no big spender either, and I don’t believe you should spend money that you don’t have, but shouldn’t safety be number one?
So I set out on a search. Yes, car seats can be rather spendy, but they’ve actually come a long way and it’s not merely a hunk of plastic anymore. These things have real technology to keep your kiddo safe, as in you get hit by some joker on their cell phone and your car is totally smashed with precious cargo in the backseat crying in terror, but the car seat saved their life. I bet you wouldn’t care what color it was in that moment. So here’s what I found…
There are many options out there, but when we are talking about safety first and I’ll even add in look and comfort second my husband and I both agreed that Britax wins.
1.The base has SafeCell technology-It’s designed to compress in a crash, significantly lowering the center of gravity and counteracting the forward rotation of the child seat which normally propels the child toward the front seat
2.Integrated Steel Bars-These bars actually strengthen the connection to the vehicle and reduce forward flexing of the child seat during a crash
3.Energy Absorbing VersaTether- That’s a mouthful! Basically it features staged-release tether webbing which is used to slow the forward movement, reducing the crash forces reaching the child, and a two-point attachment to minimize forward rotation while anchoring the top of the child seat
4. Side Impact Protection-“Comprised of deep side walls lined with energy-absorbing EPP foam distributes crash forces, shields from vehicle intrusion, and contains the head, neck and body.”
5. 5-Point Harness to keep the child secure
This particular model, the Marathon 70-G3 has a couple extras that I love…
1. Rear and forward facing capabilities
2. Easy latch system for securing in the car
3. Easy clip system as seen in the photo above so you can choose to do rear facing. Just thread the buckle through the seat as shown on the seat, slide through the blue clips, push them closed and buckle!
4. Sleek colors and fabrics for easy cleaning and style
5.Squishy pads and fabric for comfort, unlike our last car seat… just sayin’.
And one of my favorite extras, 6. EZ Buckle- This retains the harness buckle in a forward position and prevents the child from sitting on the buckle when boarding. Our oldest had a car seat that was an absolute PAIN to buckle her into because she would sit on the buckle and it would always tangle and get twisted. UGH!!
Oh, and you can get an infant positioning insert to use as an infant seat.
Anyway, I wrote Britax, told them my experience and that I wanted to tell you all how important child safety is, not look of the car seat or the fact that it’s made in Italy. We could not be happier with Britax. I don’t know that I could ever forgive myself if we got into an accident and our child was injured or killed due to a car seat malfunction. We all want the best phones, tv’s, cars, computers, security systems etc, because they make our lives easier, safer, and better because of what we’ve seen our parents have and we want to do it better. So, why are we all sitting around talking about colors of fabrics or cheapest possible deal when it comes to the safety of our children?
Were we the only ones who drove home from the hospital with that brand new baby feeling suddenly so very aware of every car on the road, person passing by, and taking the speed limit the most serious we ever have? All because of that precious cargo on board.
