Oh Christmas candy, oh Christmas candy… It may not be the original song, but it’s an even better one in my book. We grew up making Christmas treats and candies all winter break with my mom and now that I’m the grown up, or at least I’m supposed to be, I think it’s important to carry on the the tradition. These candy cane oreos may not be the milk chocolate or white chocolate dipped ones I grew up with but they are even better!

Some of my first memories involve the holidays. My mom always made peanut butter white chocolate ritz, chocolate pizza, and peanut butter balls and us kids always got to help. She is seriously a saint for how incredibly patient she was. I don’t remember her ever getting mad at us in the kitchen. She carefully taught us and we listened because we felt so grown up to be in there with her.
This is the easiest part about your holiday goodie plates and it’s all thanks to my mom. Yes, you can buy chocolate covered oreos these days, but ours are cheaper and more unique. We start with 1 1/2 bags of Candy Cane Hershey’s Kisses. Unwrap them all or have your minions, aka the kids do it. Then stick them in a microwave safe bowl for 20 second intervals, stirring between, until totally melted. Next, dip your oreos, flip over and lift using a fork so the chocolate can drip off. Place on parchment and wait for them to dry. Or don’t. It will be a chocolatey mess, but it’s kind of delicious eating them before they’ve dried.
How Long Will Oreos Keep?
Oreos will last at least 2-3 weeks past their “best by” date.
Even, stale oreos are not a health risk, they just don’t taste as good.
How Long Will Hershey Kisses Keep?
Hershey Kisses have a shelf life of about 1 year.
Hershey kisses may be frozen for up to 18 months.

I’ve been making these as Christmas treats for years. They are now officially one of our family traditions. They are so simple and always get rave reviews. Some years, it’s hard to find these Kisses. This year, Walgreens had them all season long. Thanks for sharing!
Sweet Basil
Oh yay! Love to hear this! That is great to know about Walgreens!

Just made these tonight and they were delightfully refreshing! Omg…I will now be trying to cover oreos in anything holiday! I will be giving all these to our many neighbors and I know they will love them! Thank you so much.
Sweet Basil
Haha, that’s exactly what I’m like now!
lou
can you freeze these
Sweet Basil
Hi Lou,
I don’t see why you couldn’t. I would definitely try it.

Instead of the kisses can I use a bag of Wilton wafers? Will they harden around the cookie?
Sweet Basil
Hi, I’m sure they will, but I’ve never tried it.
Carolyn Best
I’ve used the Wilton candy wafers to dip oreos and it worked great.
Becca
I had to comment on these because they are just adorable. And so easy! I made them last night, using just one package of Hershey’s Candy Cane Kisses, and spent maybe 10 minutes start to finish. (I was able to dip 20 regular Oreos, using one package of Kisses, minus the four Kisses the kiddo and I popped in our mouths during the unwrapping).
I was amazed how quickly the Kisses melted – they were so easy to work with. I had a bottle of Wilton’s Jumbo Holly Mix sprinkles, so after dipping, I adorned the top of each cookie with a red holly berry and two green holly leaves. They look so festive! Thanks for this recipe/idea – it’s going in my Christmas Traditions file. =)
Melissa
These look yummy! I want to make them for a work party.
Can you make them the night before and store them in a tupperware or do you need to eat them right away?
Thanks!
Sweet Basil
Absolutely! We do them a day ahead or sometimes two!
sam
Do these ever fully harden once they cool? Just want to make sure before I attempt!
Sweet Basil
Hi Sam, they sure do! As soon as they are cool you are good to go!
Suzanne Holt
Would happily eat any of these. Do you deliver? 🙂 Pinned!
