Alright, how many of you SLC locals have been to Caputo’s? It’s pretty much the best little, hidden gem in Utah. I adore Tony Caputo’s Market and Deli. They believe in real products, real food and inspiring and educating everyone everywhere.
If you’ve been reading my blog you know that I believe so much in education with foods.
I think that many American’s in fact, many people worldwide do not know what they are eating. I’ll take it even further to say that many American’s do not even know how to prepare meals, let alone well balanced meals. I was appalled in college to learn that many kids, and adults don’t have a clue about fruits, vegetables, good fats, bad fats etc. I believe we have become a little lazy with food. As long as there is minimal effort on our part we will eat whatever is in front of us, even if we cannot read 3/4 of the ingredients.
I’ll step down from my soapbox in a moment, but I believe we deserve better. We deserve real, high quality food. I know, for a fact, that if you can teach a person about their food, where it comes from, how to prepare it and the nutritional benefits, or issues that with time (usually the person taking a month or two to practice the new eating) that the person will not crave the crap (cheetos, freezer meals, McDonald’s etc). I’m serious. Introduce a person to real food, properly compared and the taste is better and eventually the body catches on that it is receiving proper nutrients and it will literally stop preferring the crap.
Matt Caputo, from Caputo’s Market is taking the chocolate world on. How many of us do not know that chocolate from the grocery store is merely vanilla flavored candy? I thought I knew, until I took Caputo’s chocolate class. In fact, I wish I could take all of Caputo’s classes because I felt like I had grown a little after leaving. Matt talked about what the cocoa bean really is, how chocolate is made and he took us on a chocolate journey. I thought it would be a fantastic class, but I didn’t know it would be a life changing class.
Did you know that you, and everyone else out there can easily tell the difference between real chocolate and vanilla candy commonly called chocolate? I thought you needed to be a chocolatier or some food expert, but I promise you that once you start trying real chocolates, look at the texture, color, feel, smell and taste (I’m probably not saying this all perfectly) you can tell the difference between the waxy nonsense called chocolate and the real deal. In fact, by the end of class, AND I CAN’T BELIEVE I’M SAYING THIS, you are a little disgusted with our country passing off waxy candy as chocolate. It just doesn’t taste right anymore. Don’t get me wrong. I still am going to use Guittard or Ghirardelli chocolate chips, and I may even let a candy bar into a s’more for the kids, but I am forever changed.
Some of you may be thinking that you have no desire to change, but who wouldn’t want real chocolates, for 2 whole hours?! Who wouldn’t want to grow and learn a little more. It’s fun, fascinating and would even make a fun date. In fact I think dates with friends or loved ones where you learn something new or do something you’ve never done before brings you closer together and I’m not kidding, it’s way better than a movie because of the memories.
I am so impressed with a brand that is looking to make people better. Matt Caputo has a passion for food, and anyone that has a passion for anything is someone you want to be around and learn from. That’s what the entire market is like. You walk in and you can tell that every employee believes in Caputo’s, loves real food, and is prepared to inspire, enlighten and educate you too. AND, the prices are actually fantastic.
Here’s the link for Caputo’s classes again, just in case you missed it. I’m serious, go check it out, order lunch, buy some amazing cheeses, meats, chocolates etc, and sign up for a class to surprise someone you know. You. Will. Love. It. Thank me later…
P.S. Not in Utah, no worries, order online. BEST. STUFF. EVER!
