I love Dutch Oven recipes because they are always so good, and usually so easy.  This Dutch Oven Chicken Supreme recipe is delicious and fast.  I also like to make it in the crock pot when I’m in a hurry.  It is really good as a stew, but it also makes a great pot pie filling.

Chicken is included in a healthy diet because it is a lean meat.

Chicken is a good source of protein.

Chicken is also high in calcium and phosphorous.

Is It Healthier to Boil or Bake a Chicken?

Baked chicken with the skin on is a little higher in calories than boiled chicken, because some of the fat boils off.

Baked chicken has a little drier meat, but a more robust flavor.

Description

This Dutch Oven Chicken Supreme recipe is delicious and fast.  I also like to make it in the crock pot when I'm in a hurry.  It is really good as a stew, but it also makes a great pot pie filling.

Ingredients

by: Mom

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 3-4 chicken breasts, cubed or precooked shredded chicken
  • 4 potatoes, cubed or sliced, peeled if desired
  • 4 carrots, peeled and sliced
  • 1/2 onion, large, chopped
  • 1 can soup, cream of mushroom
  • 1 can soup, cream of chicken
  • 1 can mushrooms, opt
  • salt and pepper

Instructions

  • Melt butter in 10 inch oven, add chicken and cook until white.
  • If using precooked chicken, then cut the butter into small pieces and mix in.
  • Add all other ingredients and stir to mix.
  • Put 8 coals on top and 12 coals on the bottom.
  • Cook for 40-50 min.
  • If using for a pot pie filling, then cook the chicken and mix all ingredients.
  • Put into a pie shell and bake at 425 for 30-40 min. or until the crust is lightly browned. I like to use this pie crust with a couple of alterations. Add about 1/4 Cup shredded Parmesan, and a 1-1 1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning. It makes a nice savory crust.

Notes

refrigerate leftovers
