Please don’t send hate mail. (By the way, I’m so tired as I type this I literally just wrote, “male” three times in a row. Mama needs a nap today!) Easy Krackle Brownies are not a real recipe. I make no apologies.

The truth is, sometimes I need a last minute dessert because Cade forgot to tell me someone was stopping by for a visit, or we just need a little something and it’s too late to bust out a bigger recipe.

Thankfully Cade has stopped inviting people over for dinner at church without talking to me first. Yes, that used to happen on occasion. Which is funny because my dad totally does that. I guess it’s true you marry your father. Thankfully it has ended.

But back to my point, chocolate is good no matter what and I don’t care if you’re the biggest, best chef of the west, sometimes you just want a shortcut. And this is it. Gooey, rich, chocolate brownies with big Krackle candy bars plopped on top at the end of baking. Just call me Sandra Lee. I’m totally down with semi-homemade on occasion.

Just keep a few box mixes (Ghirardelli makes a good one) and Krackle candy bars, the really big ones so you don’t have to unwrap so much, on hand and in 30 minutes you’ve got melty brownies and the crunch from the krispies is kind of all kinds of awesome with the soft brownies. I love different textures together.

Now go make brownies.

Are Brownies Supposed to Be Gooey?

Brownies should be softer and have more moisture than cakes.

Brownies are done when a toothpick inserted near the middle of the pan comes out with just a few crumbs stuck to it.

Do Brownies Harden as They Cool?

Yes they do as the chocolate solidifies the brownie firms up.

That is why it is important to not over cook.

Brownies should still be soft and leave a few moist crumbs on a toothpick when they are removed from the oven.

Can You Freeze Brownies?

Brownies can be frozen when cooled completely.

Wrap tightly in plastic wrap and then wrap again in foil.

Brownies can be frozen for up to 3 months.

  3. I’m one of the jerks who picks the krakle out of the mini-hershey mix, so this is right up my alley. sometimes the last minute recipes are best kind.
