Oh gosh, I just don’t even know how to start this post. I guess the beginning, (it’s a very good place to start. Who’s singing the sound of music now?!) A few weeks ago I attended BlogHer Food in Austin, Texas. If you follow me on Facebook you know that I just adored my time in Texas and I’m pretty much dying to go back. Like, dying. But it wasn’t just the scenery and people, it was also the food trucks, especially Gordough’s Donuts and this Mother Clucker Donut. And we happened to use our amazing Southern Fried Chicken Recipe
I actually didn’t get to try the Mother Clucker at all. I had this Miss Shortcake which you had better believe I’ll be posting about soon. Like, real soon. Anyway, Nikki from, Chef in Training and I went to Gordough’s with our friend from Pillsbury after we saw everyone instagramming photos of this killer food truck. I think that was my favorite part about the entire BlogHer Food conference, getting to hang out with all of my dear friends, some who I had never met in real life, and now I get to do this blog hop with many of my favorite people.
One night we had a pajama party hosted by PicMonkey and there was a whole stinking box of these amazing donuts. I seriously have never seen anything so tempting in all my life. Oh my gosh, it was such a nice evening. There was no getting dolled up, no walking miles to find some basement, and most of all, some of the nicest bloggers I met all weekend long. And, it only made me want the Mother Clucker donut all the more.
I know you don’t think this would be good. Or, maybe you’re a genius and you know it’s amazing. But I was totally on board immediately. I mean, sweet and salty? Heck yeah, baby! This donut turned out amazing, and while I’m horribly disappointed that my honey butter burst out of the bag and it was too late to start over it still lived up to it’s deliciousness. Major deliciousness. And guess what? It took me no time at all to make.
I used leftover fried chicken from our very favorite Southern Fried Chicken Recipe that is seriously the juiciest, crunchiest fried chicken EVER. And Pillsbury Grands, the original flaky version. You just open the can, cut out the hole, fry to heavenly goodness and drop into a glaze. Top with fried chicken (oh my gosh I want another!) and honey butter! Try this. Make it. Do it for dinner. It’s like, dinnert-dinner and dessert combined. Oh, and then go boxing after because you’ll need to wipe out a few calories.
Mother Clucker ~Gordough’s Donuts
Mother Clucker - Gordough's Donuts
Ingredients
- 1 Can Pillsbury Grands Flaky Layers Biscuits, pulled apart in layers
For the Honey Butter
- 2 Tablespoons Unsalted Butter, softened
For the Glaze
- 4 Tablespoons Whole Milk
Instructions
For the Glaze
- In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar and milk.
- Set aside.
For the Donuts
- Using a donut hole punch or a very small glass, cut out the center of each donut.
- Fill a dutch oven or large sauce pan 1/3 the way full with oil.
- Heat to medium heat.
- Add the donuts 2 at a time depending on space. Cook until lightly golden on one side, carefully use a skewer to flip them over and cook on the other side.
- Remove from the oil with a skewer to a paper towel lined plate.
- Let the oil drip off for a moment and then drop into the glaze.
- Use the skewer to pick up the donut and while keeping the donut on the skewer, place each end on the edge of the bowl to allow the glaze to drip.
- In a small bowl stir together the butter and honey.
- Tear apart the chicken and pile on top of the donut, and top with honey butter.
- Enjoy!
