Steak Tacos with Grilled Pineapple Salsa
One of my favorite summer meals, steak tacos with grilled pineapple salsa!
*I was compensated by Tyson Foods to produce this post.*
For us, as I’ve mentioned before, fitness is not about “gettin’ skinny”, but it’s about getting healthy in mind and body. Here’s the tricky part though, I have plenty of people email me that they are ready to join the program I’m working on with Tyson Foods, the Countdown to a Better You, and get in shape, but they need a little help. This post on Steak Tacos with Grilled Pineapple Salsa is for each and every one of you trying to feel like your best self inside and out. Cade, my husband is going to be writing this post with me, since he’s the one pursuing his PHD in exercise science.
(And ps, if you participated in the program, and saved your UPCs from Tyson® Grilled & Ready® products, you need to redeem them! The program ends on June 21st, which means you need to start thinking about which awesome reward you want to give to yourself. Steak Tacos with Grilled Pineapple Salsa
So, let’s get right down to it, this recipe is packed with flavor and it was done in 10 minutes. For reals. We turned on the grill and a skillet over medium heat at the same time, put the pineapple on the grill, turned once and removed from heat and the Tyson® Grilled & Ready® Steak Strips are already cooked so we just reheated in the skillet. Added tortillas to the pan (or the grill if you want) and got those warm while I finished chopping the onion, pineapple and tomato for the salsa. Then we added a little honey, lime and seasonings to a bowl, whisked and stirred in the pineapple, tomato and onion. Topped everything off will a little cheese and bam! Done!!!
So, why are we chowing down on steak if we’re talking about healthier living? I’ll turn it over to the man for that part.
Cade’s Protein Lesson
Did you know that proper nutrition for weight loss or maintaining weight is essential before, during and after a workout? Many people will workout 3-5 times a week, but they don’t properly eat so they do not see the benefits they could see or want to be seeing. Nutrition can be tricky and it can be overwhelming when you are trying to figure out what to eat and when to eat it. Protein has many roles in the body and it is especially important for enduring the stress of daily exercise and training. The amount of protein one should intake is based on individual needs and if you want help you can email us, or leave a comment and we will do a separate post on how to figure out your protein intake.
“Not consuming protein post workout is like detailing your car, but never filling it up with gas. Ultimately you’ll never get anywhere.”
If you are wanting to lose weight then you want to maintain the muscle mass you currently have. You do not want to have muscle breakdown, this is called catabolism and you’ll be less toned and unhappy with the way you look, plus muscle mass requires energy to maintain its’ current state, and muscle is helping your body burn the calories you desire to burn in order to lose that undesired fat. So, if muscles are helping you to burn calories you need to properly care for them in order to achieve the best results. Does that make sense? If you’re finishing a workout and going on with your day or eating whatever you want you’re not feeding your body what it needs to slim down, tone up, and get fit. Not consuming protein post workout is like detailing your car, but never filling it up with gas. Ultimately you’ll never get anywhere.
These steak tacos are perfect for living a healthier lifestyle or as a post workout meal. The whole wheat tortillas are a little more filling than the flour tortillas and offer better nutrients. Grilled pineapple salsa adds flavor without adding sour cream, or more salt etc. And the queso fresco is a lighter cheese option and you only sprinkle a little on compared to being tempted to load the taco with cheddar cheese. But the Tyson® Grilled & Ready® Steak Strips are the real star because they use leaner steak and it’s a great source of protein which will help you to make the changes you desire. Just make sure you don’t go overboard. Too much of a good thing…
Are Corn Tortillas Healthier Than Flour?
Whole grains are generally higher in fiber and a variety of vitamins and minerals that make them a healthier choice than refined grains.
Corn tortillas are also smaller than flour tortillas, making them lower in calories.
Can You Grill Pineapple In The Oven?
Pineapple can be grilled in the oven.
Preheat the oven to 450 degrees.
Line a baking sheet with a nonstick baking mat or parchment paper.
Place the pineapple slices on the baking sheet and place in the oven.
