Easiest Grilled Pineapple Recipe

Cade here! I used to believe that Tucanos made the best grilled pineapple, so I always wanted to know how to make Tucans grilled pineapple. And truth be told, they do make some pretty delicious pineapple. In fact, it’s awesome, but this grilled pineapple recipe is certainly the winner. In fact, with the brown sugar butter could it really be anything but amazing?

Butter, mmmmmmmmm. Alright, I absolutely agree that it’s a little wrong to slather a fresh, delicious on its own fruit with butter, but let’s be honest no one is complaining. Anyway, we go to Tucanos every year for my birthday (we actually go to Texas Roadhouse every year for Carrian’s too. It may not be our favorite in Utah, but both are traditions). We usually go with our good friends, Dallin and Savannah.

Anyway, that Tucanos grilled pineapple is pretty good, but it was definitely time to crack out the grill and make our own. Summer is not our only grilling time — no, we are year rounders. Even when it’s snowing we will run back and forth to the grill. And by we, I mean me. Carrian doesn’t go out in the snow. We love that smoky delicious flavor that comes from a grill!

What’s in Brown Sugar Grilled Pineapple?

The ingredients list for these grilled pineapple slices is so simple:

  • Fresh, ripe pineapple
  • Unsalted butter
  • Brown sugar

Seriously, that’s it!

How to Tell if Your Pineapple is Ripe

To tell if a pineapple is ripe, smell the stem-end of the fruit to see if it smells sweet. You can also squeeze the pineapple to feel how firm it is. Ripe pineapples will give slightly under your fingers when you press down.

How to Grill Pineapple

Never made grilled fruit before? Don’t fret, it’s so easy! Here are the basic steps to mastering grilled pineapple:

  1. Mix the melted butter and brown sugar together.
  2. Grill the pineapple over a medium-high flame, turning once until it is fragrant and beginning to show grill marks.
  3. Remove the pineapple and immediately brush each side with with the butter mixture.

Should I Core the Pineapple?

No, we don’t core our pineapple when we grill it. It makes it a little firmer and easier to grill when you leave the core in.

How to Serve Grilled Pineapple

Grilled pineapple can be served as a side or as a dessert. Especially if you make this brown sugar grilled pineapple sundae. Try serving your pineapple next to a smoky grilled meat and the pineapple with its juicy sweetness will add a nice contrast to the meal. You could also add some grilled pineapple slices to the top of a hamburger!

Can I Use Canned Pineapple?

No, canned pineapple is often packed in heavy syrup, making it far too sweet for this grilled pineapple recipe. Plus, canned pineapple rings are quite thin and I think they’d fall apart on the grill.

Tips for Making Grilled Pineapple Slices

When stirring together the melted butter and brown sugar, note that it will take a bit of mixing to combine the two. Just keep stirring and it’ll come together!

Be careful not to burn the pineapple when grilling it. You’re looking for some grill marks to appear, but you don’t want to blacken the fruit.

Lastly, these grilled pineapple slices are best the day they’re made but you can certainly enjoy leftovers cold atop sundaes, burgers, and more!
