Sooooo, do any of you even know about Boston Market? We don’t have one in Utah, at least I don’t think that we do, but I grew up with one in Washington and Cade and I had one up the street from us when we lived in California, so I totally am an authority on making copycat Boston Market Cinnamon Apples.  And before you take off, scroll to the bottom for more copycat recipes!

Maybe not an authority, but I still know them pretty darn well and they will be the star of any table this holiday season. I saw a picture of apples being dumped into a pie shell at the grocery store the other day and instantly I was a little girl watching my sister get ready for work at, you guessed it, Boston Market! Now, to an elementary student there was nothing better than the smell of those cinnamon apples when walking into the restaurant, but the truth is, I loved it all and can totally taste it still.

The roasted chicken, all juicy and succulent, the glazed ham, and that sweet cornbread with butter and sticky honey. I honestly haven’t been there in so long it could end up a total disappointment but back then I loved it. And I loved watching how hard my sister worked. She busted her buns to make money for college and I caught on to that. It impressed upon me in a way that hit me deep in my mind. I knew I would do the same, I would work hard and save my money and be responsible. My parents taught me those things too, but watching a sibling do it, well that changed me. Gosh I hope our kids do the same for each other.

Which Apples Are Best For Cooking?

The best apples for baking keep their structure, which keeps the chunks of fruit from turning into bland pockets of apple mush.

Granny Smith are the most common apples used for baking, but, there are many other good choices.

Some people prefer to use a combination of apples in their recipes.

Jonnagold, honeycrisp, gala and pink lady are excellent apples to cook or bake.

Are Apples Good For You?

Apples are extremely high in important antioxidants, flavanoids, and dietary fiber.

Antioxidants and flavanoids may help reduce the risk of developing cancer, hypertension, diabetes, and heart disease.

Apples are also high in vitamin C, and B-complex vitamins (riboflavin, thiamin, and vitamin B-6) – these vitamins are key in maintaining red blood cells and the nervous system in good health.

How Long Will Cooked Apples Keep in the Refrigerator?

Cooked apples, as with most cooked fruit should be refrigerated.

They will keep 3-4 days in the refrigerator.

Copycat Boston Market Cinnamon Apples

Ingredients 

  • 2 Tablespoons Butter
  • 2 Apples, peeled and sliced in wedges (we like Gala and Honey Crisp)
  • 1/4 Cup Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Cinnamon
  • 1 Pinch Nutmeg
  • 1 Tablespoon Flour

Instructions 

  • Heat a nonstick skillet over medium heat and add the butter.
    2 Tablespoons Butter
  • Once melted, quickly add the apples and toss in the butter.
    2 Apples
  • Allow to cook for 3-5 minutes or until they begin to get golden brown marks on them and are tender but not mushy.
  • Remove from the heat and stir in the sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg and flour.
    1/4 Cup Sugar, 1 teaspoon Cinnamon, 1 Pinch Nutmeg, 1 Tablespoon Flour
  • The apples should turn all glazey while they rest, if not put on low heat and stir until they thicken and a glaze develops.

you can freeze cinnamon apples in a heavy duty freezer bag or a container with a tight lid for up to 4 months

        Hi Bella! Great question! I like to reheat them on the stove top. Just over medium low heat until they are heated through stirring frequently. You could use the microwave too but I always feel like they heat up so unevenly.

    Can you freeze these apples? How long do they last in the fridge?

      Yes, we freeze them all the time. It does change the texture a little but we freeze them in ziploc bags for up to 2 months. In the fridge they can last up to a week

    Just made these for about the fifth time. I triple the recipe for my familiy of five because everyone loves them and gobbles them down! I save time, I use golden delicious apples and don’t peel them; the skin is soft enough that you don’t have to peel it off before cooking.

    I remember a Boston Market in WVC, back in the 90’s. When I worked out that way, we would go there on our lunch break. I recall the turkey and cornbread were yummy. Thanks for this apple recipe, I’m trying this today for sure. Really enjoy your blog.
