Every fall, this is one of the first snacks I make when apples start filling the grocery stores. It’s sweet, creamy, packed with brown sugar flavor, and somehow tastes like cheesecake filling without any of the work.

I first served it at a baby shower, and everyone immediately wanted the recipe. Even Cade made sure I saved him his own bowl at home because apparently sharing wasn’t an option.

Whether you need an easy after-school snack, a holiday appetizer, or something simple to bring to a party, this easy apple dip is always a hit.

Ingredients for Brown Sugar Apple Dip

You only need three pantry-friendly ingredients to make this creamy apple dip.

  • Cream Cheese: Use full-fat block cream cheese for the smoothest, richest texture. Let it soften at room temperature before mixing so everything blends together easily.
  • Brown Sugar: Brown sugar gives this dip its rich caramel-like sweetness and pairs perfectly with crisp apples.
  • Vanilla Extract: A splash of vanilla rounds out all the flavors and makes the dip taste almost like cheesecake filling.

A Few Tips: Let the cream cheese soften before mixing for the smoothest dip. Chill for 20–30 minutes if you’d like a thicker consistency.

Best Apple for Apple Dip

The best apples are crisp varieties that balance the sweetness of the dip.

Our favorites are:

  • Honeycrisp
  • Pink Lady
  • Envy
  • Braeburn
  • Cosmic Crisp

If you prefer a tart contrast, Granny Smith apples are also fantastic.

Apple Dip FAQs

Can I Use Low-Fat Cream Cheese?

Yes, the low fat cream cheese works great, but I would avoid the fat free cream cheese.

Can I make apple dip ahead of time?

Yes! This dip actually tastes even better after chilling for a few hours. Store it covered in the refrigerator until you’re ready to serve.

Can you freeze apple dip?

No. Cream cheese tends to separate after freezing and thawing, resulting in a grainy texture.

How long does apple dip last?

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week.

How to Keep Apple Slices from Turning Brown

If you’re serving this dip for a party, keep your apple slices looking fresh by soaking them for 5 minutes in a mixture of:

  • 1 cup cold water
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice, orange juice, or pineapple juice

Drain well before serving.

What Can I Dip in Brown Sugar Apple Dip?

Apple slices are the classic choice, but don’t stop there.

This dip is also delicious with:

  • Pretzels
  • Graham crackers
  • Vanilla wafers
  • Animal crackers
  • Strawberries
  • Pineapple
  • Pear slices
  • Banana slices

Want to change it up? Stir in toffee bits, mini chocolate chips, chopped pecans, cinnamon, pumpkin pie spice, or drizzle caramel sauce over the top.

I also make this same recipe but replace the vanilla extract with a capful of caramel extract…yummy! Also, to keep the apple slices from browning , slice the apples and immediately soak them in ice and salt water for a few min. This keeps the apples from browning for a full day…store in fridge.

You are a gold mine!! I am totally trying all of this. Thank you!

  2. Jennifer says:

How do you keep your apples fresh for serving at a party? I’ve tried the soaking them in Sprite before but they still turned brown.

    1. Sweet Basil says:

Hi Jennifer, really they will oxidize no matter what you do, but tossing them in lemon juice and then sealing with glad press n seal on a platter is your best bet.

  3. Denise says:

I made it but used 1/3 less calories cream cheese and it was more soupy than fluffy. Is that why? Still tasty though.

    1. Sweet Basil says:

Just in case others wonder, and sorry you’ll get two emails.. 🙂 Reduced fat doesn’t mix up exactly the same but it’s more likely that the cream cheese was too soft or got over mixed.

  4. Deb Mc. says:

I have a recipe very similar to this but it has 2 T. of maple syrup (real, not fake syrup) added to it. Delicious!
