My mom is a wonderful cook. She makes perfectly comforting and easy recipes and is always willing to share them. This molasses oatmeal bread recipe is another of my Mom’s and it is so yummy. When I was younger I would smell the oatmeal bread cooking and hover around the kitchen until it came out of the oven. Then we would slice off a thick, warm piece of bread, add a little butter and honey and chow down.
There may not be anything better than fresh, warm bread out of the oven. It’s so so good, but many will never know the joy of fresh bread as it makes them so nervous to make it.
That’s just silliness. Bread making is actually really easy and I never like that people make it such a big deal. Especially this one, put it all into the KitchenAid mixer and let it whirl. The only thing you’ll have to do is knead it and who doesn’t need a little dough therapy punching every now and again?
Cade and I can’t help ourselves, whenever this bread comes out of the oven. We just have to slice off a piece and eat it warm. It’s irresistible. But right after that we hurry to wrap it tightly in saran wrap which keeps the bread soft all week long. It’s the best way to do it.

Molasses Oatmeal Bread
How much butter in the recipe?
Oh, ELiza, thanks for writing. When I transferred the recipe it deleted the 1 tablespoon of butter. It’s updated now!
This might sound silly, but the oatmeal seems to be abandoned. Either I misread (highly likely) of there are no instructions for incorporating into the rest of the recipe. Please help!
Maggie, I’m so glad you wrote! Last night I put the recipe in a new plugin and it ate a line. I’ve added it back, but after you add in the molasses with the yeast mixture you stir in the oats. Thank you for letting me know!
Hi this Sounds Really Good, but Was Wondering You Said You Use 5 1/2 Cups of Flour but Your Measurements Say- 5 1/2 Cups Flour (We do 2 1/2 Cups Wheat and 2 Cups White) WHICH ONLY EQUAL 4 1/2 –
SO CAN YOU PLEASE TELL ME IS IT 5 1/2 OR 4 1/2
THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I VIEWED YOUR WEBSITE AND SO FAR THE RECIPES LOOK GOOOOOD-
THANK YOU
Susan
Hi Susan, for some reason I often only end up needing 4 1/2 cups but I keep a little extra of either flour out just in case the dough is too sticky. 🙂
Carrian, can this be made in a bread machine, if so what would be the best way?
Thank you so much for a speedy reply,I really want to make this “scrumptious” bread, but am not able to use my hands for kneading.
God bless you.
I made this yesterday and I LOVE IT! So delicious! Even makes great sandwich bread. It holds together better than whole wheat bread. thanks!
Hey Leslie, it just makes one loaf and it's just a regular loaf pan, though you can stick it in the smaller bread loaf pan and it works fine, it just makes a tall loaf.
“. . . and the aroma of the beautiful bread fills every corner of the home” Beautiful!!
This looks very yummy! I will be making it soon…there is nothing like warm bread and butter!
Question…how many loaves does it make and what size loaf pan did you use?
Irresistible! I would day so!!!!
