I’ve always been a sleeper. Even as a kid I slept in and that only became later and later the older I got. Now, some of that ended up being my thyroid, and when my levels were off I was so incredibly tired I could easily sleep until 11 am every day and still wake up like a sloth. I remember meeting my now husband’s family and getting a bit of a hard time about the sleeping. I was so, so embarrassed but I felt hit by a bus too. It was horrible. Now I’m an early riser and it’s not just kids that changed me. Plus I get to enjoy this chia protein green smoothie bowl which is a pretty fantastic way to start the day.
Having kids and getting my thyroid on track (we check it every 3 weeks while pregnant and 3 months when not) made me start enjoying mornings more. But also this article I read about early to bed and early to rise. I cannot even begin to tell you how much I believe in it. Getting a good start to my day has helped me get more done, stay fit and healthy and have so much more peace and clarity. Like, a ton more.
There’s something about those quiet morning hours, getting in a good workout and reading my scriptures while I eat breakfast before the kids are up. It’s so quiet it allows me to think and ponder over things I need guidance for which often involves my children. It’s hard to be a patient mom, for me at least.
My mom was not a yeller and hardly ever lost her patience. Most importantly she always had time for us. That was a big deal to me as a kid but it’s harder for me than I thought as an adult. That’s why mornings have changed my life. Even something as simple as a really healthy and energizing smoothie bowl recipe makes a big difference in my life. I need that good feeling energy to get through my day.
Plus, then I don’t destroy my children which is also a good thing.
