Do Reese’s Rice Krispies Need to be Refrigerated?

Reese’s Krispies can be stored at room temperature in air tight containment (zip-top bag with no air in it), for 1 to 2 days without any ill effect. They keep longer than they last, if you get my drift. You can refrigerate them.

This post is a repost from years and years ago, but seeing as how this recipe, no matter what I do remains number one on our site, I thought it would be a good idea to bring it back to life. I’ve left the original post on here, so you get to see our kids from almost 6 years ago!

Why Are My Reese’s Rice Krispie Treats Hard?

High heat is the prime culprit for rock hard rice krispie treats. → Follow this tip: It will take a few more minutes of cook time, but melt the butter and marshmallows over low heat. You’ll be rewarded with delicious, soft and chewy treats!

Who has left over Halloween candy?!

I know I do. I was trying to think up a delicious way to enjoy all of that candy other than just eating piece by piece and I came up with these. Oh! I think I forgot to even tell you about Halloween!

Ok, first of all, our sweet little one had just healed from Croup. And a bad version of it. She’s only 16 lbs so to be hit with an extremely bad strain of croup was a big deal. By Halloween it was just a bad cold, so all of the scary not breathing, or troubled breathing had thankfully ended. Two steroids is what it took and I pray it doesn’t ever happen again. Croup is quite honestly one of the worst things ever.

Anyway, last year I had wanted to dress our oldest up as Rainbow Brite, but I am sooooo glad I waited until this year. Aren’t they darling?!

Make sure you click on the video below to watch how these go down.

Ok, I know, I’m bragging. But, don’t you think everything turned out perf?! The sprite costume of “Twink” was made by Erika from, Pink Suede Shoe.

She’s amazing. That’s all. Enough Said. Check out her site. Love her. Envy her talent. Go ahead. I already do.

Are Reese’s Rice Krispies Gluten Free?

Reese’s Rice Krispies are not actually gluten-free. They contain malt and, sometimes, barley for a flavor enhancer. Besides this, they are made in a gluten-filled vicinity which makes them officially non-gluten-free.

I just made these!! Yum.. I had a little under for peanut butter and only 3 Reese’s eggs left over from Easter.(I know, I know who has left over Reese’s!??!) I also added a cup of mini marshmallows. It was cool enough so they didn’t melt. Fantastic!!! Thanks!

    1. Sweet Basil says:

ok, that totally sounds so good with the marshmallows!

  2. Darlene Berky says:

I love your recipes and your children are beautiful

  3. Amy Eller says:

I have no clue what I did wrong, but I followed the instructions and when I scooped them out they just crumbled apart. Please help!

    1. Sweet Basil says:

Amy, when they are still really warm they kind of do fall apart, but you just pile them up and then let them cool and they should stick together. Also, I’ve had many emails with the same problem but all of them got the recipe from online (pinterest, facebook etc) and not my actual site. Those recipes are all different (some only have sugar and pb!) so if by any chance you had the same experience let me know. The mixture should be very sticky when stirring, but if not let me know what it looks like and exactly what brands etc you used and how much and I’ll help you figure out what happened.

    2. Sib says:

Wash your hands and then use an icecream scooper grab a handful and then press the kris pies into the scooper untill you have a nice sized ball formed

    3. ange says:

That happened to me before when I left the peanutbutter mixture on the burner too long…

  4. Jenny says:

Hmmm I had a baking FAIL! I just made these and they are spooned onto paper cooling at the moment, but are they supposed to be watery when you put them on the paper? I am hoping they will be edible once they cool but there was a lot of liquid that seeped to the paper when I spooned them there, just wanted to see if this was normal, or if I should let the mixture harden in the pan longer before I spoon them onto the paper? Thanks!

  5. Auto Insurance in Conway Arkansas says:

Today, I went to the beach with my children. I found a sea shell and gave it to my
4 year old daughter and said “You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear.” She put the shell to
her ear and screamed. There was a hermit crab inside and it pinched her ear.

She never wants to go back! LoL I know this is completely
off topic but I had to tell someone!

  7. Megan says:

This recipe looks really good, but I can’t see the last 3 ingredients in the list. There’s 3 bullets but no ingredients showing? Thanks!

    1. Sweet Basil says:

Hi Meg, I’m not sure why there were any bullet points showing up blank but that is the full ingredients list. Enjoy!

  8. Melissa says:

What is the best way to store them and how long do they keep? I’m making them for a Halloween party this Friday night, but I also have a 2 layer cake for the same party so I was going to make these tomorrow. Will they be ok for two days?

  9. Kathleen says:

Made the Reese’s-Krispies and doubled the recipe. That made a little over 100 Tbl sized balls. They were delicious. Hint: Make sure that you use a strong spoon, and have a strong arm, because when you start stirring the Krispies with the Peanut Butter mixture, it stiffens fast. They make a perfect treat. Happy Halloween!

    1. Sweet Basil says:

I must make mine so big! I’ll have to change the tablespoon to 1/4 cup. haha

  10. Liz says:

Kid’s costumes are adorable!! Recipe sounds delicious!! But who in the world has left over Reece’s??? Just Saying!!! Will definitely buy some extra to try this out though

    1. Sweet Basil says:

hahahaha! AMEN! I totally have to buy extras to make these treats. I think the first year I posted this was the first year we ever have had leftovers and it will probably never happen again
