The Best Christmas Treat for Kids to Make
This is one of those things that you must teach your kids to make. It is so simple that you don’t have to worry about messes or problems and it is a great chance for them to invite friends over or do a little service by delivering them to people that might need a pick-me-up.
Ding-Dong Ditching
Did your family ever ding-dong ditch when you were a kid? Ours did, and let me tell you—it was the best! There’s nothing quite like the thrill of sneaking up to a neighbor’s house, leaving a little surprise, and running away giggling before they catch you. It’s such a fun way to spread a little cheer!
- Pick a favorite treat (these Rolo Pretzel Bites are perfect!) or a small gift—Redbox codes for a movie night are always a hit.
- Package it up all cute and festive.
- Load the kids in the car and head to your lucky recipient’s house.
- Let the kids dash up, drop the gift on the doorstep, ring the bell, and RUN!
The laughter, the excitement, and the secret joy of doing something kind—it’s a memory-maker for sure. Plus, it’s a sneaky way to get kids thinking about others and how a simple gesture can make someone’s day!

Rolo Pretzel Ingredients
Rolo pretzels at my house look like this:
- Square pretzels (or mini regulars are fine too but squares hold up better)
- Rolos (I just love that gooey caramel!)
- M&Ms- we usually buy red and green or pink, white and red for holidays.
How to Make Rolo Pretzel Bites with M&Ms
- Preheat the oven: Set your oven to a low temperature.
- Prep the pretzels: Line a large cookie sheet with square pretzels. Add as many as you’d like to make.
- Add the Rolos: Place one unwrapped Rolo on top of each pretzel, then carefully transfer the tray to the oven to avoid knocking off the chocolates.
- Melt and top: Once the Rolos are shiny and slightly softened, remove the tray from the oven and gently press an M&M into the top of each pretzel.
- Cool and store: Let the pretzels cool completely before storing them in an airtight container.
Creative Variations
- Switch up the chocolate: Try swapping Rolos for Hershey’s Kisses or Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups for a fun twist on flavors.
- Get fancy: Drizzle melted white chocolate over the pretzels and add sprinkles for a festive, decorative touch.
- Turtle-inspired treat: Skip the M&Ms and press a pecan half onto the melted Rolo for a decadent turtle candy bite. Want to take it up a notch? Add another pretzel on top to make a mini pretzel sandwich, then dip it in chocolate for an extra indulgent treat!

Oh Sweet Basil Pro Tip!
When I first started making these I had issues with the chocolate not being melted enough and the rolos still standing tall or the Rolo melting too much into a puddle.
The key is in the TEST.
Open the door and pull the cookie sheet out. If the chocolate is looking shiny, gently press an m&m in so as to not force it into a hole. The chocolate should slowly bend down into a soft round.

Are Pretzels Gluten Free?
Pretzels are generally not gluten free as they are made with flour. However, times have greatly changed and there are many gluten free pretzel options at most grocery stores.
What Other Topping Options?
I have seen a few fun options for Rolo pretzels, try one of these if you don’t have regular m&ms!
- Pecan Halves
- Peanut Butter M&Ms
- Peppermint Bits
- Peanuts
- Peanut M&Ms
How to Store Rolo Pretzels
Make sure you store your little pretzel snacks in the right way. A plastic storage container is best so that there isn’t as much jiggling and breaking of the pretzels.
I do not recommend placing them in the fridge as the pretzels will start to go soggy.
How Long Will Rolo Pretzels Keep?
These yummy Christmas snacks will keep for up to 2 weeks!

Favorite holiday dessert! We make every year.
This may be a dumb question, but can these be frozen or will that make the pretzel yucky? I’m making these for my son’s wedding and need to know if I can make them in advance. Thanks!
Hi Lisa! I would not recommend storing them in the fridge or freezer prior to serving but they will keep at room temperature in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks.
I have been trying to pin some of your recipes that I’d like. And I am unable to. Just wondering if anyone else is having this trouble
Hi Patricia! I tried pinning on my end and had one of my employees try and it worked fine for both of us. What exactly is it doing for you?
My husband says they taste like Twix bars & we are officially obsessed with these!
Yesssss! So good! And so easy!
