I’ve been emailing with Abeer from Cake Whiz (have you seen those amazing penguin cookies?!) and we got on the subject of mice. You see, she had one in her basement and I of course had to share our story. I’m kind of totally grossed out and scared of mice, but so is Cade, well not scared but grossed out. Anyway, pull up a pile of these candied macadamia nuts and let’s chat. And if you’re really hungry you could have some cranberry dip too. Just sayin’…
Wait. Pause. Before I get distracted any further may I just say that these are so easy and perfect for holiday parties? Because honestly, I love little munchies along with the bigger items like dips and desserts at New Years or holiday parties. I really do. Handful after handful gets shoveled in my mouth and it’s glorious.
Alright! Buckle up your belt because this is totally gross.
So over the summer I went to open our grill and a mouse totally skittered across the grates. WHAT THE HECK?!!! It scared the jeepers out of me!
What in the world are jeepers and why do we say that?
Anyway, I refused to go outside obviously, until the mouse was caught. So Cade set traps. And we waited. Neither of us wanting to venture out.
That blasted mouse started stealing the cheese off the traps! So we changed traps and switched to peanut butter. HE LICKED IT OFF! HOW???? The girls and I saw him do it multiple times and boy was I over it.
One night we were sitting down to dinner when that little bugger ran up our screen and then sat there, holding on with his little toes and watched us eat!! We couldn’t handle it! The girls and I are losing it, Cade’s laughing but totally unwilling to go out and try to catch it and that my friends, is why mice are the devil. The. End.

Are Macadamia Nuts Really Nuts?
Macadamia nuts are not true nuts.
Like walnuts, pecans, peanuts, and pine nuts, they are actually seeds.
True nuts include pecan, sweet chestnut, beech, acorns, hazel, hornbeam and alder.
Are Macadamia Nuts Good For You?
There really isn’t one type of nut you should avoid.
All nuts are a good source of plant protein, contain no cholesterol and are low in saturated fat.
The majority of the fat in nuts is unsaturated, a heart healthy type of fat.

I feel your pain! We had one that avoided our traps for months. He got so comfortable with me that he would walk right next to me while I was sitting at the table to grab crumbs from under the high chair. We finally broke down and hired an exterminator. They caught 9 mice. NINE! So gross.
The trick they taught us was that you have to set a lot of traps – like 5 next to each other in multiple spots – up against walls because they walk along the edges of the rooms.
Good luck! I hope you catch him!

My friend had an INVASION in her house. Babies everywhere. It was disgusting. And she had one big one that managed to lick the traps clean every single day without setting them off. But I’ve never seen one so ballsy as to climb up on the screen and watch you eat! haha

If you hot glue a nut to the mousetrap trigger, the mice are not able to steal it.End of story.

Haha, that is a great idea!!
