I have been sitting here forever trying to figure out a name for these things because they are kind of like those “turtle” chocolates people make except not because there are not nuts and the chocolate is on the bottom not a shell on top. Bites? But it’s a little more than a bite and truffles clearly wouldn’t work as they are nothing like a truffle. Snaps? I mean, they do snap when you bite them. And trust me, they are addicting little salted caramel pretzel snaps!

Our friend, Aaron gave us a try of a little salted caramel pretzel snaps treat at his house one night, but I haven’t ever seen them at the store, so I was stuck to make my own and I’m happy to say it’s the fastest recipe ever!

Quick and Easy Holiday Treat

I don’t even know if I should be calling it a recipe as there’s not really much to it. In fact, I was trying to hurry so I put two pieces of parchment out, one for me and one for our 10 year old and 6 year old. The 10 year old did the chocolate and caramel and the 6 year old placed pretzels and sprinkled salt. I chose to photograph their’s just to prove it could be done by a child.

Candy making was a whole process at my house growing up. We made gobs and gobs of candies, turtles, peanut butter balls, coconut balls, chocolate pizza, and more! It was such a fun time and I loved helping it.

It makes me a little sad to think about how I didn’t realize just what a special opportunity it was to be surrounded by family in a safe, loving home and to just be a carefree kid. I know that it’s like that for most kids, but I regret not taking more advantage of being a family. Now we all live far apart and holidays are often spent alone because it’s too far to travel to everyone. Such a bummer. But at least we can make our treats with our own families not and keep the tradition going.

Ingredients

  • 3 Bars Milk Chocolate Almond Bark, melted (a 14 ounce package has bars in 2 ounces each so you would need 3 bars or 6 ounces of chocolate)
  • 1/2 Bag Mini pretzels
  • 1/2 Bag Caramel squares, melted or more as needed. I also use a hunk of Peter’s Caramel Brick from Orson Gygi
  • Sea Salt

Instructions

  • Lay out wax or parchment paper, using a spoon, drizzle a little chocolate on the paper and smooth it out a little with the back of the spoon like you are painting a circle.
3 Bars Milk Chocolate Almond Bark
  • Drop three pretzels, slightly overlapping onto the chocolate and spoon a little melted caramel over all three.
1/2 Bag Mini pretzels, 1/2 Bag Caramel squares
  • Sprinkle with a little sea salt and then drizzle a little more chocolate.
    Sea Salt
  • Let set and store in Tupperware.

Does it only take 5 minutes for these to set in room temperature or do you cool them?

    1. Sweet Basil says:

If the kitchen is warm it takes longer, but I just pop them in the fridge if that’s the case otherwise they really do only take a couple of minutes. 🙂

  2. Amaryllis @ thetastyother.com says:

OMG these look perfect! Thanks so much for sharing!

  3. Mandy Judd says:

These are Snappers, they can be found at costco, they are dark chocolate though, I’m not a dark chocolate fan but my husband is and I LOVE chocolate covered pretzels and I am obsessed with snappers even though they are dark chocolate so it’s the perfect combo for my husband and I ha. I’m so excited to make these tonight! Costco isn’t close to us.

    1. Sweet Basil says:

Yay! I hope you love them!

      1. Mandy says:

        oh we did! 😉

    2. Sue Barrett says:

You can find snappers at Kroger too in the candy section.

I found these in a grocery store in a town about 1 hr. from where we live and have never seen them near home. I am so happy for the recipe. The ones I bought were called snappers and they were exactly like what you have made here. Thanks so much.

    1. Sweet Basil says:

Oh yay!! They are so yummy!

I love how these snaps seem sorta fancy but they’re actually crazy easy and oooh that sweet and salty combo gets me every time. I LOVE IT!

    1. Sweet Basil says:

      That’s what I love too!

  7. Annette Tracy says:

Thanks for getting back to me. I thought that was probably what you meant. Will definitely try these!

  8. Christina @ The Beautiful Balance says:

Turtles, snaps, bark, whatever you call them I love them. I love everything about this. How easy and simple the ingredient list is and how amazing I know they are going to taste. These are perfect for a cookie exchange or quick take-home gifts for friends and family at Christmas!

  9. Annette Tracy says:

When you say three bars of chocolate bark, do you mean the small squares? And where do you get those?

    1. Sweet Basil says:

Yes, and they are just in the baking section of the store. Each little square is around 2 ounces

      1. Rebecca says:

Do you mean the ones that say sweet or semi sweet? Like baking chocolate?

      2. Sweet Basil says:

        Hi Rebecca,
No, melting chocolate is either almond bark, or sometimes called candy coating. It’s different that baking chocolate and is usually sold in flat discs or as a brick.

      3. April says:

Could we use chocolate chips and melt them down? Cause I’m not sure what almond bark is either.
I can’t wait to make these for the holidays

      4. Sweet Basil says:

Absolutely, almond bark is just the big blocks of chocolate you can buy in the baking section. Not the baking chocolate though.

  10. Becca Pusey says:

These look absolutely yummy! Love how simple they are too.
