How Long Will Grilled Chicken Last?
Cooked poultry is safe refrigerated for 3-4 days and in the freezer for 2-6 months.
I feel like Utah summers are way too short. Yes, the stupid snow can be beautiful, but 9 months out of the year!! COME ON! I really am so ready for consistently good weather, but I know it can snow until June so I’m always anticipating more yucky weather popping up during the summer. I made polynesian or grilled Hawaiian chicken thighs last week just to encourage summer to stick around. TAKE THAT UTAH!
Grilled Hawaiian Chicken
K, this chicken is awesome. Love the flavor, love the simplicity, love those grill marks. You could do this in the oven, but why not pull out the grill? We chose to serve ours with a little of the reserved marinade (this never touched the chicken) and we ate it over coconut rice. HOWEVER, anyone and I do mean anyone, can make this chicken. To quote my 5 yr old, “easy peasy lemon squeezy”. So stinkin’ cute.
What Side Goes With Grilled Hawaiian Chicken?
Choose side dishes to complement the light, fruity flavor of the chicken without overwhelming it.
We always do a side of grilled corn because it’s amazing and I think corn on the cob should be eaten as often as possible! Some other suggestions are, broccoli, rice, Hawaiian bread, and fruit.
I would definitely use the chicken thighs over breasts, they are far more flavorful, and definitely take the time to let it marinate. You. Are. Welcome.

Sticky Honey Lime Grilled Chicken
The YUMMIEST grilled chicken with a sweet and sticky sauce!
Just wanted to point out that the page name is spelled “hawiian-chicken”. Also on your oregano chicken page the html name is “quick-grilled-chicken-with-oregaon”, so a little tricky to find. The recipes are great but hard to find when you’re just typing in the name. Maybe I need to use a better search tool. I never know what to do with chicken thighs and this recipe is a winner. Also I appreciate that you included the marinating time within the prep time.
Thank you so much Brandie! I know about those misspellings in the URLs. They make me crazy but unfortunately, changing them now would do more harm than good. You can just do a google search for “oh sweet basil oregano chicken” and “oh sweet basil hawaiian chicken” and it should pop right up in your search results. I’m so glad you enjoyed this recipe!
What temp and how long do you bake it in the oven if you aren’t grilling?
Hi Rachel! I would go 350 degrees for 30-40 minutes.
This recipe is delicious! One of my favorite chicken recipes! I followed the directions for the marinade, but for the amount of chicken that I use I do half the amount of marinade. Grilling is not as easy for me to do, so I cook the chicken in a sauce pan or skillet with a little bit of the marinade after I have it sit in the marinade for a hour or more. And it comes out delicious! Tasty, and moist! I’ve already made it twice, and I will be cooking it much more! Thank you so much for the recipe.
Booyah!!! I love it!!! Great job!

Fingers crossed!! Let us know!
what if im cooking for a big family like 10 pounds of chicken? do i just triple the ingredients?
Yes! That is exactly what I would do!
Trying tonight.. sounds great!! Thank you
Could I get away with marinating it for only 7-8 hours? Reading this recipe in the AM and wondering if I can make it for dinner.
Soy sauce in the recipe is it dark or light soy sauce
We prefer light, low sodium soy sauce.
can you use coconut juice in the place of coconut milk?glenda
Hi Glenda, Unfortunately coconut juice wouldn’t quite work the same as you need the creamy coconut milk.
Don’t get me wrong… I love chicken breasts, but thighs are so under rated. I would rather have a few good thighs than an average chicken breast. Your caramelization looks awesome here
Could not agree with you more!
Sometimes simple flavours are the best! Love this recipe, but am using brown rice to make coconut rice. I feel it is more wholesome. Love the prictures btw!
I am not a ‘cook’, but my husband and I survive. This looks so good, I am going to stretch my culinary skills and try it, but with chicken breasts. We don’t care for dark meat. Wish me luck.
Good luck!! I know you’ll love it as much as we do!
Used this recipe recently for a BBQ for a birthday party – it was a big hit. Easy to make and oh so good. Followed the directions and couldn’t ask for a better marinade.
Thank you so much for the sweet comment. We love this chicken and even bake it during the winter!

This looks delicious! I would like to try cooking some pineapple in the marinade to go with the chicken. Thanks for the recipe!

This chicken looks delicious… We love Hawaiian chicken and your pictures are mouth watering!
Tasha, thank you so much! I cannot get enough of that chicken!
My Dish is Bomb
I spent a couple years in Hawaii as a kid and this was always one of my favourite dishes. The sauce is more or less “Huli Huli sauce” and it’s divine!
Ahhhh, is that a better name for it? I totally want to try that now!

Thank you so much!
I will make his for sure but sub in pineapple juice for the coconut milk. Maybe even split to 7 0z each Can’t have Island chicken without pineapple.
That sounds great! You could even make our coconut rice to go under it!
I’m going to try it this weekend…even though you spelled “Hawaiian” wrong! 😉 Love the addition of coconut milk instead of the usual pineapple juice.
oh my goodness! LOL!! And no one even mentioned it so I never noticed!!! LOL!!
wow that looks so simple but delicious! you got a great char on that meat!
Sounds delish! And I hate the freakin' long winters here, too. I would love for it to snow the week before and after Christmas, and then go away. I wish Fall lasted for 9 months of the year. That would be a dream!
the color here is amazing, I bet super tasty.
