This creamy, fluffy, delicious Dulce De Leche Banana Cream Pie is probably one of our absolute most favorite pie recipes ever.

EVER. It’s seriously incredible. The graham cracker crust is one of the greatest things that has ever happened to America but then pour in dulce de leche, fresh bananas, and the creamiest, dreamiest pudding mixture and you are seriously in for an amazing treat. It totally can hold it’s own next to a classic apple pie, or a no bake pumpkin pie at Thanksgiving dinner.

What is Dulce De Leche?
Dulce De Leche is a traditional Argentinian dessert made by caramelizing sugar in milk.
Dulce de leche(pronounced “DOOL say day LAY chay”) is a Spanish term for a thick caramel sauce popular in Latin America.
What Does Dulce De Leche Taste Like?
I would say that it’s fairly similar to caramel, but it is a taste to it’s own…Very Tasty
It’s in between caramel & butterscotch. It’s very sweet too.

This pie is not as difficult as other pies too. No cooking necessary, other than the pie crust.

The only thing that is truly important to remember is to follow the pudding section instructions carefully. Don’t skip mixing the milk and pudding separate as it wont set up right otherwise.

I prefer to bake my own graham cracker crust, but you can totally buy one if you prefer.

This is a pretty fabulous step in the pie making, spread almost an entire can of dulce over the top of the bananas. If you can’t find a can of dulce de leche in the baking or hispanic section of your store just make your own by boiling a can of sweetened condensed milk. You can google tutorials. Reserve just a little as a decorative topping.

This pie is rich, but amazing. I absolutely loooooved it. I think it would be good served as bars too. I can picture it now… mmmmmmm.

So, you fill your pie crust with bananas, top with dulce de leche and then top it with “Not Yo Mama’s Banana Pudding” from Paula Deen. Oh my. It’s wonderful. There’s truly nothing else I can say. Just, go make it, tomorrow.
How Do You Store Dulce De Leche Banana Cream Pie?
Freshly made Dulce De Leche Banana Cream Pie will keep for about 3 to 4 days in the fridge; refrigerate covered loosely with aluminum foil or plastic wrap.
But, let’s be honest. This pie is so good, there will not be any left over to store!

Dulce De Leche Banana Cream Pie

This banana pie looks so delicious. I haven’t eaten it since ages and I’m already drooling 😀
You’re going to love it!!
I have never had the dulce de Leche before. I’m guessing from the word ‘leche’ it is some kind of a dairy product. Where would I find it in the grocery store? Do you think I could make this into a coconut cream pie version without the bananas? Thank you for your help.
I’m sure you could! It’s like a caramel sauce. We find it in the international aisle with the Mexican food, but you can boil sweetened condensed milk as well into caramel.
This looks amazing!
Thank you!
My goodness, this looks delish and mouth watering!
This looks yummy!
I’ve made this pie twice now with the second time probably being the best. I didn’t really change the recipe but modified the steps a little.
1.) I made my own whipped cream simply because I forgot to grab some from the store and had some heavy cream on hand
2.) I warmed the dulce slightly to help spread it, but instead of pouring over the bananas I poured it into the crust and then spread it over crust walls as well.
3.) Lastly, I reheated the remaining dulce and mixed it with just a little heavy cream and filled a squeeze bottle and made swirls over the top. The cream just thinned it out and made it easier to use.
This really is a great recipe!
Oh I forgot, once the dulce was spread I lined it with bananas, filled it with maybe half the mixture, then put another layer of bananas on that and then covered with the remaining. I WANTED BANANAS! LOL!
That is my kind of pie!! I love the double layers! I’m totally doing that next time, so thank you for the idea!
Hi,
This looks amazing. So here are my questions. Can I use banana pudding instead of vanilla? And if using fresh whip cream would I use 6 ozs of heavy whipping cream to start?
Thanks so much
Hi Lisa,
You definitely can use banana. We have when I’ve forgotten to buy the vanilla. You would need about 1 cup cream to make the whipped cream, then measure out about 1 1/2 cups to use. Just make sure you add a little powdered sugar to the cream to sweeten it up.
Fabulous pie! This will be on my Thanksgiving menu!
Yesssss! You’re going to love it!
Hi! I just find this recipe and I’m so exited to try it today! just when I get home!
The only problem is that I live in another country and I don’t have access to cool whip… Do you have any idea how can I replace it? maybe whpped cream? meringe?
Let me know your thoughts please!
Thanks for the recipe!
Hi Pamela, You absolutely can just whip fresh cream and use that. Hope you enjoy it!
I made this but instead of using the vanilla instant pudding, I used the cheesecake pudding, wonderful.
Hey there..quick question. ..I just made banana dulce de leche pie..I misread the amount of cool whip..I put I fold the whole jar..would it be oh ok..I put it in the freezer. .to set..
It will just be extra fluffy, however I would not freeze it as it will cause the ingredients to run as they defrost
